The U.S. government’s strategic response to attack this cruel disease abroad was PEPFAR, an American initiative that has saved more than 25 million lives and shaped my understanding of what muscular public health policy could accomplish. Today, as New York City’s health commissioner and a practicing doctor, I see a desperate need for similar focus and ambition here in the United States. Because of chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease — along with drug overdoses, suicide, violence — the United States has not. When developing countries needed H.I.V. When the world needed a Covid-19 vaccine, we combined government-funded research with private initiative and an enormous distribution campaign.

ORLANDO, Florida, Nov 16 (Reuters) - The U.S. high yield bond market is the dog that has rarely barked, never mind bitten, during the Federal Reserve's most aggressive interest rate-raising campaign in 40 years. The 'junk' bond market may also contain less junk than it used to. But changes in the composition of a leading high yield corporate bond index over recent years suggests this might be the case. "The high yield index is a higher quality index than in cycles past," reckons Bill Callahan, investment strategist at Schroders. It is now below 400 bps, and high yield bond investors are the most overweight since January, BofA's latest survey shows.

Meanwhile, electric-pickup maker Rivian Automotive (RIVN.O) reported third-quarter deliveries above analysts' estimates and reaffirmed its annual production target of 52,000 vehicles. Deliveries of Tesla's premium vehicles, Model S and Model X, rose to about 16,000 units in the third quarter.

Discovery — would rip the curtain back on the data secrecy practiced by the streamers, that's not quite what happened. And it's not just creators hoping for bigger residual checks who are eager for more transparency about streaming data. As Netflix, Disney, and more companies pitch new ad-supported streamers, advertisers have griped that streamers have been slow to share the data about audience numbers and composition. Brands investing in films for distribution on streamers also are clamoring for more data to understand how many people are watching them. The WGA can share the data with its broader membership, but only in aggregated form.

After Usman Khawaja fell for a duck, Warner shared a 69-run stand with Marnus Labuschagne, who reached 26 not out, to steady the innings. Shardul Thakur dismissed Warner for 43 in the penultimate over before lunch. Earlier, India did not have to wait long for a breakthrough after captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and inserted Australia on a grassy wicket. After a quiet opening hour, Warner cut loose and hit Umesh Yadav for four fours, including three in a row, in an over. Shardul Thakur had two lbw appeals against Labuschagne turned down and India reviewed both decisions but could not get them reversed.

Jadeja claimed a career-best 7-42 as he and Ravichandran Ashwin (3-59) routed Australia for a paltry 113 in their second innings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Skipper Rohit Sharma made 31 and Cheteshwar Pujara, who made 31 not out, scored the winning run in his 100th test. Earlier, resuming on a promising 61-1, Australia added 52 runs before Jadeja and Ashwin engineered a spectacular collapse. Rahul hails 'phenomenal' Iyer as Shakib rues missed chances
  + stars: | 2022-12-25 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
DHAKA, Dec 25 (Reuters) - India's stand-in captain KL Rahul heaped praise on middle order batsman Shreyas Iyer after their thrilling victory in the second test against Bangladesh while home captain Shakib Al Hasan was left to rue missed opportunities. However, Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin then forged an unbroken 71-run stand to frustrate Bangladesh and pull off a thrilling victory for the tourists. Mehidy Hasan (5-63) and Shakib (2-50) wreaked havoc with the ball, but Iyer gave a spin masterclass to secure India's victory. That proved a costly mistake in the end, but the hosts had also missed four chances in India's first innings. "It is slightly disappointing, as other teams don't miss the chances that we are missing," said Bangladesh captain Shakib.
In a surprise move, the Canadian government said earlier this month that it had decided to cease issuance of real return bonds (RRBs), citing low demand. That makes them an expensive form of financing for the government, but cost should not be the only consideration, investors say. The median allocation by defined benefit pension plans, a major category, to RRBs was 5.2% in 2021, data covering members of the Pension Investment Association of Canada (PIAC) shows. U.S. Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities (TIPS) could act as a proxy but are not an exact hedge against Canadian inflation. Breakeven rates are the difference between yields on nominal and real return bonds.

Kathy Hochul has extended the state of emergency declared in response to the spread of poliovirus after sewage tested positive in Brooklyn and Queens. The New York State Department of Health, in a statement Tuesday, said the sewage sample that tested positive in Brooklyn and Queens is genetically linked to the virus that paralyzed an unvaccinated adult in Rockland County over the summer. A total of 70 sewage samples have tested positive for poliovirus in the New York City metropolitan area so far, according to New York state health officials. More than 28,000 doses of polio vaccine have been administered since July in Rockland, Orange, Sullivan and Nassau countries, according to state health officials.
